For the grown-up
Each lesson takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Big idea
A harder push makes a ball go faster and roll farther.
Words
- push to move something away from you
- harder, softer a big push, a little push
- farther a longer way away
- start line the tape where every push begins
- fair test keep everything the same except the one thing you change
Talk together
- Before you push: where do you think the ball will stop?
- Which push made it go farther? How do you know?
- What did we keep the same each time?
- What might happen with an even harder push?
Get ready
- A soft ball, painter’s tape, one yellow and one blue sticky note
- A long, clear floor; about 15–20 minutes
Safety
- Roll a soft ball on a clear floor away from stairs, doors and people; never throw it. Short strings stay on the table, never around a body.
