Plan your school year

Choose your child’s grade, a start date and how many school days you teach each week. The planner lays out that grade’s Social Studies and Science lessons in teaching order. Teaching siblings? Choose each of their grades, Kindergarten to Grade 2, for a plan each. Add break weeks, tick off weeks as you finish them, gather materials ahead of time, then print a checklist or add the plan to your calendar.

Add a week off for a holiday or a rest. The suggestions are optional. Each break is a whole week, and it moves every later week and the calendar file back by one week.

How the days work

Each school week holds that grade’s lessons from one family week: a Social Studies lesson, a Science lesson, or both. Each lesson has short sessions from its workbook:

Social Studies Read and notice (about 20 min) · Make and save evidence (20–30 min)
Science Read and notice (about 20 min) · Investigate and record (20–30 min, plus short checks) · Make and save evidence (20–30 min)
Kindergarten One Social Studies and one Science lesson each school week · its read-to-me pages and hands-on try (about 15–20 min each)

3daysThree daysUp to two sessions a day. A week with both lessons fits in three days.
4daysFour daysOne or two sessions a day, in teaching order.
5daysFive daysOne session a day. Weeks with one lesson leave spare days to revisit or catch up.
